A confident performance from Zanaco FC helped them beat Zesco United 4-1 at Sunset Stadium and handed Caf’s 8th Ranked side its worst away defeat in any competition since 2009.
Zanaco Fc made some changed to the starting lineup replacing Cameroonian Centerback Richepin Tchokouaya who was replaced by Ghanian defender Kelvin Owusu while upfront striker Rodgers Kola who suffered a shoulder injury during a mid week friendly was replaced by Chitiya Mususu who was returning from injury.
Zesco United made two changes brought in fullback Shemmy Mayembe for Mwila phiri while Misheck Chaila started ahead of Khondwani Mtonga as Zega looked to continue their 7 year unbeaten run at sunset over Zanaco.
It was Zanaco though who took the initiative and scored three times in the opening 30 minutes with midfielders Souleyman Moussa, Tafadwa Rusike and striker Chitya Mususu getting the goals as Zesco goalkeeper Jacob Banda was replaced by youngster Samson Banda and the match went into halftime with Zanaco leading 3-0.
Zesco pulled a goal back in the 70th minute through midfielder Logic Chingandu as a revival looked to be on the cards but an 86th minute goal from winger Ernest Mbewe ended all hopes for Zesco as Zanaco ran away 4-1 winners.
The result is Zesco United’s heaviest loss away in any match since they suffered a 4-1 loss to Power Dynamos in the ZSL on the 30th of September 2009 and it was also Zanaco FCs first win over Zesco United at Sunset since a 2-1 win in 2012.
Zanaco move to the top on 26 points while Zesco are fourth on 21 points.
