Preview: Zambia Face Botswana In COSAFA Cup Final

Zambia will battle it out against Botswana in the 2019 COSAFA CUP final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday in Durban.

With kick off set at 15h00,this match promises to be an explosive encounter.

In this match, the Senior Chipolopolo Boys will be aiming for the 5th COSAFA CUP title while,the Zebras will be eyeing for the first title.

To progress to the final, Zambia beat Malawi 4-2 on post match penalties in the quarter-final following a 2-2 draw during relegation time before seeing off Zimbabwe 4-2 on penalties at semi-final stage after the sides settled for the scoreless draw during 90 minutes.

On the other hand , Botswana overcame South Africa 5-4 on penalties in quarter-final and 2-1 in semi-final to advance to the final.

Meanwhile,the Zebras have never beaten Chipolopolo Boys in this Cup since it’s introduction.

The teams first clashed in this tournament on March 25, 2000 were Zambia thumped Botswana 3-0 in the first round.

In 2006 semi-final, Forward Given Singuluma was the difference of the two sides as Zambia edged Botswana 1-0 before handing them a 2-1 defeat on July 1, 2017 at quarter final stage.

Zambia have been the runners up in the previous two editions against Zimbabwe.
