Team Kopala were by local standards impressive at the back with the central defence pairing of East African duo of Faustin Usengimana and David Nshimirimana as well as Isaac Shamujompa but will have to add at least one more experienced and proven performer in this position given the kind of competition they are set to take part in next season.
Power Dynamos’ free-scoring Zimbabwean international defender Jimmy Dzingai would be a great addition on any given day but will not come cheap but Team Kopala can use continental football to lure the former Caps United stopper.
Gor Mahia captain Harun Shakava’s contract with K’ogalo is up on June 30 and he is yet to sign a new deal while reports have emerged that the 25-year old who is a product of the famous Kakamega High School, has began a search for a new club.
Shakava arrived at Gor as young 18-year old and has grown into one of the finest defenders in the region and dependable captain for the club.
He is proven quality and Team Kopala should be clever to offer him a bumper deal to before K’ogalo tie him to a new deal.
January signings,Alex Mwamba and Leviuex Matondo saw little action in their debut season at the club and can be shown the exit door to progress further in their careers.
IN: Jimmy Dzingai,Harun Shakava
OUT: Leviuex Matondo,Alex Mwamba
One of the areas where they need heavy investment.
Srdan Zivojinov used natural centre-back Shamujompa in a defensive-midfield role in the absence of Jean-Vital Ourega and Ngosa Sunzu but the Zambian international did not disappoint as he did fairly well considering it was not his natural position.
Team Kopala will need to add another recognized player in this position to compliment Ourega and Sunzu.
Power Dynamos’ midfield powerhouse Benson Sakala has previously been linked to the Ndola moneybags and he should be the on the list of their targets in this position.
Buildcon also lacked a central attacking midfielder as they at some point used striker Mushili Chanda in this position while Muhamad Amadu and Fabrice were far from impressive.
Gor Mahia’s midfield maestro Francis Kahata is a perfect fit on any given day and his contract is up at the end of next month and he will be a free agent meaning Team Kopala can offer him an offer he cannot refuse to snap him up in would be a blockbuster signing for free but will have to beat Tanzanian giants Simba SC who have confirmed interest in the Kenyan international through coach Patrick Aussems.
Kabwe Warriors’ Clement Mundia was one of the stars of Warriors impressive 2019 transitional season campaign that saw them narrowly miss out on a place to play continental football.
Mundia deserves to play continental football after his impressive performances and Team Kopala can give him a chance to rise into one of the finest players in the country.
Another Power Dynamos man that Team Kopala can look up to is Larry Bwalya who has proven his quality season in and out but they will have to fork out a fortune to take Power’s star man.
IN: Benson Sakala,Francis Kahata,Clement Mundia & Larry Bwalya.
OUT: Muhammad Amadu,Fabrice Maleka
Despite having made quite a number of additions in this department,Team Kopala were let down by poor finishing and lack of coordination among their strikers.
Moses Phiri,Chanda Mushili and Ephraim Guikan can be forgiven and given another chance to prove themselves but to be shown the exit door would be the likes of Ugandan Hood Kawesa who has struggled to find his feet at the club since joining at the start of the 2017 season along with Mande Badawa and Eliuta Mpepo.
Team Kopala will need to add a someone that will bring immediate impact to the team by hitting the ground running and so that man will have to be a big name signing.
Kenyan international striker Masoud Juma is of proven quality and he is currently a free agent after leaving Libyan side Al Nasr.
Masoud would definitely be a good addition.
New Star Douala’s 21-year old goal-poacher Junior Ngongang scored 5 times in last season’s CAF Confederations Cup and he would also be a great addition for Team Kopala.
Other options include,Adams Zikiru who put behind his frustrating injury-hit campaign at ZESCO United in 2018 and last season as he dazzled while on loan at Forest Rangers, scoring 10 goals and word is that the bosses at his parent club are planning call him back to the club but they the player is reluctant to return because of his stained relationship with George Lwandamina.
Team Kopala can take advantage of this situation and add the Ghanaian goal-machine to their squad.
NAPSA Stars’ Laudit Mavugo is another great option but would be difficult to sign given that he has spent a season at the Pensioners.
IN: Masoud Juma,Junior Ngongang,Adams Zikiru,Laudit Mavugo
OUT:Hood Kawesa,Eliuta Mpepo and Mande Badawa
