Newly signed ZESCO United goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe has been called to the Zambia National ahead of the 2022 COSAFA tournament to be hosted in Durban, South Africa.

Chibwe on Thursday became ZESCO United’s fourth signing since the opening of the transfer window will be hoping to consolidate his position between the sticks for the Chipolopolo Boys.

Chipolopolo Head Coach Aijosa Asanovic has also extended an invitation to ZESCO United striker Enock Sakala jnr.

Sakala will be hoping to prove himself to the National Team technical bench after receiving his first international call up during the first round the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Like Sakala and Chibwe, Asanovic has asked for the services of ZESCO United attacking midfielders Kelvin Kampamba, Spencer Sautu and club defender Shemmy Mayembe

The Chipolopolo Boys squad is expected to assemble in Lusaka on June 29 ahead of the 2022 COSAFA edition which kicks off on 5th July.

The Chipolopolo will join the tournament at the quarterfinal stage with a tie against the winners of Group A that comprises Botswana, Angola, Comoros, and Seychelles.

Green Eagles defender Warren Kunda has also been handed a call up in recognition of hard-tackling antics for the Choma based side.

The Chipolopolo will enter camp on June 29 in Lusaka.

Asanovic will be hoping to scan through the best local talents that he may also consider for the September round of the Ivory Coast 2023 Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back clashes with Lesotho.

The 2022 Cosafa tournament will run from July 5-17 in Durban, South Africa.
