The Confederation of African Football’s Doping Officer for the game between Ghana and Nigeria, Dr Joseph Kabungo, has died after violence erupted at the end of the match in Abuja. Dr Joseph Kabungo, a Zambian medical practitioner, is reported that have lost consciousness after he was beaten and stepped on as fans try to make their way out of the stadium due to stampede.
CAF Medical Committee Member/AFCON 2012 winning Team Doctor & the 1st Zambian to sit on the FiFA Medical Committee, Dr. Joseph Kabungo passed away yesterday at the Abuja Stadium [during the pitch invasion] where he was on duty as Doping Officer for the Nigeria Vs Ghana World Cup Qualifier with Top Nigerian journo Osasu Obayiuwana reporting that the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Dr Kabungo’s family, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the Government of the Republic of Zambia have been duly informed.
In a post on Twitter by British-Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, his death was confirmed after he was rushed to the hospital.
