The lunchtime Group C kick-off has Namibia facing Uganda at Madibaz stadium.

The Copper Queens go into this year’s tournament two months after representing Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and coach Bruce Mwape will be looking to the Asian experience for motivation after playing against Netherlands, China and Brazil.

While the majority of the Tokyo squad have not made the trip to the ‘Windy City’ of Gqeberha, the locally assembled squad has what it takes to compete in Group C against Eswatini, Namibia and guest nation Uganda.

With first-choice goalkeeper Hazel Nali absent, Zesco Ndola Girls’ N’gambo Musole, Catherine Musonda of Indeni Roses and her Nkwazi Queen counterpart Eunice Sakala are expected to fight for the number one spot.

Zambia will rely on captain Grace Chanda, who leads the attack line, and the likes of Margaret Belemu, Lushomo Mweemba, Agness Musesa and Mary Mulenga in the heart of defence.

Vast Phiri, Patricia Lampi, and Margret Mulenga are also available for selection.

In midfield, Mwape will depend on Milika Limwanya, Avell Chitundu and Mary Wilombe, with Penelope Mulubwa, Esther Namukwasa and Elizabeth Mupeso also gunning for a starting XI.

Zambia will be looking to better the 2019 finish in which the lost 1-0 to South Africa in the finals. The Copper Queens third finish in 2002, 2006 and 2017 also stands out as the best outcomes.
