FORMER Chipolopolo wing wizard Clifford Mulenga has claimed that striker Lazourous Kambole’s career was destined to be a failure at Kaiser Chiefs as the stage was too big for him considering his background.

Kambole scored once at Chiefs in 40 appearances spread over two years and was then justifiably placed on the transfer list with a season remaining on his contract.

“The Zambian league and the South African league are different. He (Kambole) went straight to one of the biggest teams in Africa which has players with good football backgrounds meaning they are way too technically gifted than him. He struggled to adapt to the conditions and level of football because he didn’t come through an academy system even here in Zambia,” Clifford Mulenga disclosed.

Mulenga played for 10 clubs in South Africa and so is familiar with the league and was also once teammates with Kambole at ZESCO United.

“His strength is his speed and scoring goals but he went to a league where he failed to utilise his strengths because Chiefs are a football-playing team. When I watched him, he struggled with the technical side of the game which is what set him back a bit. Kaizer Chiefs was way too big a team for him to make a move straight from Zambia. At teams like Chiefs, your technical ability needs to be up there because those are ball-playing teams and not just teams that play route one hoping to use the pace of someone like Kambole.

“From the few months that I played with him here at ZESCO United, he was never the most technically gifted of players but depends on speed. You have to be forever getting him into spaces so that he runs at people and that is not the kind of football that Chiefs play.

“So that is what hurt his career at Chiefs. He has been at Chiefs for a while now and for him to be still struggling is not encouraging considering that guys like (Samir) Nurkovic came and made an immediate impression. Maybe a move to another club might help him, a team like Swallows FC or SuperSport United who I feel play the way he likes,” explains Mulenga who is now playing for Forest Rangers in Zambia.”
